December 2016 Academy Story

image02For December, American Grooming Academy is celebrating the theme Home for the Holidays”. American Grooming Academy is going to support our theme by giving a helping hand, along with our supportive customers, to a local rescue “ Animals Need Rescue” and “Care Project”. Hoping to make a difference for a homeless pet or  a foster child, during this holiday season!

image01AGA is supporting the “Care Project”: with a donation box in our reception area. These items; board games, family movies, art supplies and etc will give more families the opportunity to spend time together. The CARE Project will be collecting items from the AGA campus until December 21st. AGA is supporting our theme by not only providing a space for donations to be taken but by also offering a Spa Package discount. By bringing in one item from the list, clients can receive $5.00 off their “Sleigh Bells Spa” package, which can be added to any groom or bath service. Bring your pet in before December 21st to donate and take advantage of this great offer and make a difference to a foster child’s Christmas!

image03The elves at AGA along with our customers are also giving back to a rescue group that is close to our hearts. “Animals Need You Rescue” was born and raised in Temecula and we were fortunate enough to know the angel in charge before her dreams were realized. Debbie Krieg’s dream along with Board Member Bettyann Taylor of starting a Non- Profit 501c3 became reality and almost immediately unwanted pets began pouring in.

image07The first thing American Grooming Academy could do this” Home For The Holiday” Season was donate. So that’s what we are doing. $5.00 of every “Sleigh Bells Spa” Package that is sold will go directly to Animals Need You Rescue. Our clients can add this Add On package that includes; Peppermint Shampoo & Conditioner, Tooth brushing, Facial massage, Cologne and FREE Sleigh Bells Spa Holiday Collar to any groom or bath service.

image00Along with our monetary donation, Home for the Holidays would not be complete without…..Homes. Many of the unwanted pets that are in foster with “Animals Need You Rescue” can be seen at shows on weekends, but they will also be visible on AGA’s “ Home for the Holiday’s Adoption” wall.  In our reception area clients can see the pets that are ready for immediate adoption, find out information about them and set up meet and greets! If you are interested in giving a pet a home for the holidays visit Animals Need You Rescue facebook page! https://www.facebook.com/animalsneedurescue/

We are hoping that getting some of these pets into homes, Animals Need You Rescue can help more. Here are a few stories of pets that have been saved over the past year!

Daisy

image08Daisy was not a dog that did well in a shelter. Not only was she scared and shy but she trembled unconditionally. All due to the fact that she was kept to line the pockets of a backyard breeder. Daisy was confiscated and her life as a backyard breeder consisted of the following:24 hours a day in a cage, no climate control, exposed to the elements, bred every heat cycle, Inadequate food, veterinary care and socialization. Needless to say it seemed after 4 months that she was bound to stay a “foster”dog. Then something amazing happened, after 4 months of working on gaining trust with Daisy she caught eye of an older couple. Daisy wasn’t too big and wasn’t too small, like Goldilocks she was just right. For Animals in Need Rescue this potential home was just right, quiet with no children and only one other pet. Perfect. Daisy went into her home as a potential adoption, just to make sure. Her new family continued to work with her anxieties about large groups of people over the 4 months since adoption, even utilizing a swaddling shirt popular for pets with anxiety. We are happy to report that Daisy’s family had a grand total of 25 people over this past Thanksgiving and Daisy’s mom says “she made her rounds and was the hit of the night, all along sporting her Thundershirt!”

Winston

image06Winston was just a baby. Found skinny and abandoned in a fenced yard of a home that was abandoned, it is not known if he was left behind or dumped there. He spent three months in rescue and by that time he was already a hit at shows, always getting attention but not knowing the breed when the question came, “how big will he get,” many people searched for something other than Winston. One day at a show, a young girl locked eyes with Winston, which is not hard to do when you see the ice blue of those big soft eyes. She was five, he was a baby, it was love at first sight. Mom had always had pit bull mix type dogs, which is the best guess at what Winston would be. Mom stated that a divorce had taken place and she wanted her daughter to have something of her own to help settle the feelings of displacement. When they knew this was the dog, breed didn’t matter, size didn’t matter, nothing matter but the love between a girl and her dog. Winston began training class with his girl by his side the whole time. Animals Need You got an update just last week, that Winston (the name stuck) now happily sleeps under his girls bed covers, protecting her from monsters under her bed!

image09This Month AGA was asked once again to participate in Temecula’s annual Santa’s Electric Christmas Parade! We had an amazing time with adoptables, patrons, students, alumni and friends who all came together for the holiday spirit! AGA’s float was completely created by staff

and students and was a huge success because of the team work AGA has always instilled in its associates. Poodles abound,it’s no question

the pets walking along side our float were a big hit reinforcing our “Home For The Holidays” theme! We are so excited to be a part of a growing and caring community and are thankful to be a part of a Temecula Tradition! Until next year!
