July 2016 Academy News Story

image04 (2)Wow it’s already July! Here at American Grooming Academy we have had a great start to the 2016 year! From amazing graduates and new students to Cat seminars with PCGAA, Professional Cat Groomers Assoc. of America,  and Dog grooming workshops with IPG, International Professional Groomers association. AGA also announced its first ever scholarship at the first of the year! This month we celebrate an AGA first!

A scholarship program was always a dream of AGA. Giving back to a community so everyone could have a choice in a career they love. With the announcement of the first ever scholarship for American Grooming Academy we put all our hard work and dedication into resourcing the scholarship so every possible person had a chance to win. Our scholarship included a full paid tuition to the Advanced Professional Pet Stylist course which is 480 clock hours. Also all textbooks and curriculum was included. West Coast Animal Groomer Supply, AGA’s supplier of everything we need, generously donated the kit for our scholarship!

So now we starting getting applicants. “I was so excited when the first one came in!” AGA instructor Kat said. President Angela Clark responded with “WHOOOOOOO HOOO”! The end date for the scholarship eventually came. After tons of promotion AGA now had to figure out who was the winner. Well thankfully we had some help and after much review we came to our winner and runner up.

image03 (2)Stephanie Mcmillian, had already been trolling for a Pet Grooming academy when she came across the scholarship ad. After doing her research she decided that AGA looked the best and she was going to request a potential student tour. That’s when she stumbled upon the scholarship application. She decided that she was going to enter. Stephanie states when asked that “ the most meaningful part of my essay is when I explain how profoundly it would change my life  and give me something to show for everything I have been through.”

image01 (2)Stephanie’s love of animals started at a young age-

“For as long as I can remember, animals have always been a part of my life. I grew up with cats, dogs, birds and many more! I have had a natural love for them. Because my mother and father were drug addicts and were not around when I was younger, the animals we had were my outlet.

When I was thirteen I started volunteering at The Ramona Animal Society and stopped when I was seventeen because I decided to started college. I wanted to become a vet but did not have the means to do so. Instead, I settled for a different major and put my dream on hold.”

image06 (2)Stephanie was voted to be the winner of the scholarship. All the scholarships were unanimous when they were given to our readers and Stephanie’s was voted the #1 by all three. “Calling Stephanie was one of the most amazing things i have done as an instructor. I had goose bumps when I dialed the numbers because this was really going to change someone’s life, this was the start of something she would remember for the rest of her life. Instructor Kat. “We asked Stephanie what she did when we hung up after announcing the news, “Cried, laughed and cried some more.”

image07 (2)Becoming a part of AGA is a big step. It’s even bigger knowing that you are not just another student but the first ever scholarship winner. Stephanie was excited and nervous. “I just wanted to start as soon as I could! I am so excited. I am nervous about how well I will do, I want to be the best I can be. Being the scholarship winner comes with a sort of responsibility to make the academy proud of me, and I really wanted to be someone they were thankful received the scholarship.”

image02 (2)Stephanie is now well on her way to a new career. The runner up of our scholarship challenge received a $1000 off voucher to use on any tuition they would like. Morgan Brown took us up on the offer. As the runner up she decided that being an AGA student was well worth it and signed up right away. Recently, other scholarship applicant, such as Janetta Nickels, have decided AGA is the right choice, for their training, for their new career! We expect many more to sign up within the next couple of months!

Think AGA is right for you? Come in for a Potential Student tour! We would be happy to answer any questions you may have!

Also this month is our Pet Tech CPR training and Certification seminar! Sign up before July 24th!
