This month at American Grooming Academy we are celebrating the season of giving! One of the most joyous times of year for families can be hazardous for your pet. Here are some ideas from American Grooming Academy on how to make the holidays great for all members of your family including your furry family member.
Book your pets grooming or bathing appointment early as many salons tend to book up very easily around the holidays. Remember that if you book before a major holiday, groomers are stressed, you are stressed and other dogs are stressed so having your fur babies smelling and looking good should be done early.
With family members from out of town with their kids, your pet will be wondering what’s all the commotion. Remember your pets don’t understand the sudden influx of people or why Aunt Batty keeps giving them candy, only that it’s a great time to get away with their bad habits. Tell your family & friends what restrictions you have on your pets & what is allowed. If everyone is informed the chances of a holiday vet visit is less likely.
Tis the season for all the baked goods you can get your hands on….well your “furkid” is thinking the same thing. Remember to put all baking supplies, candies, chocolates and anything else that can cause unwanted holiday vet bills in a safe place up high where they can not be reached.
Oh Christmas tree oh Christmas tree. The number one problem vets see from November 25th to January 3rd are foreign bodies. That means your pet is literally eating the Christmas tree. Make sure if you have a pet that has to “taste” every ornament on the tree that your tree is in a cordoned off area or decorations are hung out of reach. Also packages seem to be lots of fun to eat so remember to keep boxes, bags and ribbons off the floor!
Try to give back! This time of year has many people giving instead of receiving. Shelter pets need your help too! Donate time, food, blankets, cat litter or cookies to shelters and their pets. Every dog and cat want to sleep in a warm house and wait for their stocking so make sure a give a little more this holiday season!
