Halloween Trick Or Treating!
America has become a nation of pet owners! More and more pets are being incorporated into this country’s holidays and Halloween is no different. from pet costume contests, to pet halloween parades, many cities all over the nation involve their pets in the trickery of the season! Here are some tips when having your pet participate! Here are some links to dog events in California!
Test your pet’s costume! Make sure your pet is comfortable in their costume! Make it fun with treats or their favorite toy when they are trying it on. Make sure your pet can move freely and safely at all times. If your pet can not do the “costume thing” consider a themed bandana, bows or none toxic air brush!
Trick but no treats! Make sure your furry friend doesn’t get into the Halloween bootie by keeping it high and inside a cabinet or cupboard, but don’t leave them out completely! But if you want to give out treats for pets this Halloween while trick or treaters are coming to your door here is a great and easy Pumpkin Carob Pet Cookie Recipe!
The sweetness of pumpkins is what will make your dogs’ mouth water. Adding the carob chips doesn’t hurt either. 🙂
Of all the dog cookie recipes out there, you’ll be hard pressed to find one as appealing to the taste buds of dogs as well as humans!
Ingredients:

1 cup pumpkin puree (not the pie filling)

2 eggs, lightly beaten

1/4 cup packed brown sugar
-
1 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
-
1 tsp baking soda
-
1 tsp cinnamon
-
1/2 tsp ground cloves
-
3 cups rolled oats
-
1/2 cup carob chips, unsweetened
Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350° F

Lightly spray baking sheet with cooking spray with flour.

In a small bowl combine the pumpkin and eggs.

In a large bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, flour, baking soda, cinnamon and ground cloves.

Next, stir in the rolled oats and carob chips.

Make a well in the center of the oat mixture. Pour in the pumpkin mixture.

Thoroughly stir together until combined.

Using a cookie scoop, scoop the batter onto the cookie sheet. Flatten into a cookie shape with a small glass dipped in water so the cookie won’t stick.

Bake for 15 minutes.
- Cool completely on a wire rack.
Fall is the time for molds and allergens! This includes your pets. Your outdoor leaves fall and get wet with the cooler temps bringing the dreaded allergie molds. Many pets have flare up when it comes to seasonal allergies. These can include sneezing, watery, puffy eyes, coughing or itchiness. If these symptoms persists, you can contact your vet about treatments to help get your pet through this stuffy time of year, you may want to take along some Kleenex for yourself!
