January 2014 Academy News Story

Happy New Year from American Grooming Academy!

The new year is all about new beginnings, and doing something worthwhile! With the start of the new year, many people make changes to begin a better life for themselves! Whether a New Year’s resolution, or just a better way of living…this holiday urges us to be the best we can. For two recent graduates the idea of starting new was a simple one a year ago, and now has blossomed into the dreams they have had for so long! This month is dedicated to the American Dream in one very special mother daughter team!

Pam and Amy Morrissey are a mother and daughter that came to American Grooming Academy looking to start something new. Pam was a regional director of a preschool and Amy was an assistant director. Together they possess over 37 years of experience in children’s education. Then, like so many others, they decided they wanted the American Dream, to be their own boss and to run their own business. So they sat down and decided together what they wanted to do. The result? They both knew without a doubt they wanted to work with animals. With a few months of research, they decided to come into the American Grooming Academy Campus for a potential student tour. After leaving Amy and Pam knew they wanted to eventually open their own grooming salon and American Grooming Academy was the place to learn how. So after choosing American Grooming Academy they came to school each day ready to learn.

Pam, “The first week was hard, a lot of physical labor that I was not used to.”

“I couldn’t wait to come back! I love the dogs!” – Amy.

This mother and daughter team learned grooming techniques, breeds and how to work with each other and help each other. After graduation the pair began scouting locations, for their grooming salon, after a few short weeks they settled on a hill top in Redlands California. Their new shop “Cutiepies” Grooming Salon was born! Graduating in June, this dynamic duo, with the help of some friends, planned to open their shop on October 5th 2013! Former instructor Kat was on hand for opening day, “I am so proud and honored that Cutiepies is now open. I truly believe these two will make me even more proud with each passing day!”

Only five months after graduating “Cutiepies” opened. On opening day there were 9 dogs bathed or groomed, and there have been calls and walk ins ever since.  “Cutiepie’s” maintains a grooming standard carved in stone from the pairs teaching at American Grooming Academy. Always give more than the client expects, be kind to all animals, and help each other. This mantra is held by all those who graduate, and being successful starts with a need to be the best. “Cutiepie’s” grooming salon offers three packages wistfully named the “Piece of Pie” Package, a full service bath and brush, the “Half a Pie” Package, a basic bath and groom, and the “Whole Pie” Package, a full service advanced groom and bath service. “Cutiepie’s” logo states: “Cutiepie’s! Where every pet is a Cutiepie!” Making good on that promise the pets who have been groomed there, and their parents have all been happy!

Pam and Amy will have a successful shop and a business that they love for years to come. Looking down the road, Pam and Amy hope to be a position in the months to come, to hire other groomers to help with the patronage of pets that will be coming through their doors. They also would like to become certified in cat grooming, so they can offer this service to their clients. Here at American Grooming Academy, we are very proud of our graduates, and wish them every bit of success and happiness from owning their own business!

Congratulations Pam and Amy!
