This past May American Grooming Academy hosted their first ever CPR seminar and certification class. Our seminar was open to the public but our AGA alumni made us proud! The one day evert was held on a Sunday and some of our most successful graduates showed their life saving skills! The month of June prepares us for lots of pets, and busy students, so safety is our game at AGA.

We contacted two graduates of AGA to ask them what they thought of this first time ever event, and we were please and surprised with the answers! We believe at American Grooming Academy that the power of knowledge is what makes our current students and alumni such great advocates for our trade and these are some of the reasons!

Pam Morrissey of Cutie Pie’s Grooming in Redlands California, is a business owner, mother and amazing alumni of AGA. She and her daughter Amy Morrissey, not only attendedAmerican Grooming for their training but worked closely with AGA instructors in building their business from the floor up. Now approaching their VERY successful two year anniversary Pam and Amy attended this first time ever event at AGA and we went straight to them for feedback on education we provided to help them be even more successful!

pam“As a business owner I feel it is important to keep everyone as safe as possible. You always hear how important it is to know CPR for the people in your life, well what about the pets in our lives? If one of my clients pets or even one of my own, I would want to do whatever I could to keep them safe and the CPR class was just the start!” -Pam Morrissey

When asked if she thought CPR certification was a good business tool to make her customers more likely to come to Cutie Pie’s she responded, “Yes, very much so, the knowledge along with the certificate hanging up on our wall for all to see gives new and old customers a little more peace of mind that we would care enough to take the time to learn CPR/First Aid. It is a sign that we deeply care about the pets in our care and we are prepared if case of an emergency.”

cutie_piesLearning and especially continuing education is essential for all of AGA’s current students as well as alumni. This is why we see it as essential learning in an environment our students are familiar with! The seminar as a whole was great but the 3 things that really stick out are:

1. How to close up the muzzle so you can give the dog breathes through the nose.

2. How to take a piece of cloth and turn it into a muzzle.

3. The first aid part of the seminar was good to know also, the important things to keep in your first aid kit!

dalmationAt American Grooming Academy, our students are our best example of what we can do, the pet styling is second, and with Alumni like Pam and Amy we definitely are the very best at what we do! Don’t take it from us! Ask our amazing Students!

“Being a proud AGA graduate I would like to see seminars on networking – the importance of memberships for support, new ideas keeping up with the latest cuts, social media for grooming how to keep it positive, and how to more effectively advertise yourself/ business. It was so nice to be able to go back to AGA and learn something new and see old friends! We can’t wait for the next thing to learn!”
