June is a great month to be outside! The pesky bugs are not in full swing and the weather is not too hot, but just right! AGA would like for you and your pet to get outdoors this June, and here are some great ideas to get you started!

Hosting a Pet Picnic!

catsPicnics are not just for romantic couples anymore. With the pet industry slated to reach 60 Billion this year, more American families spend money on their pets than any other country! So why not bring the Furry love of your life on a picnic! Its all about the food! Picnics are all about finger foods- that goes for pets as well. If your pet has no allergies you can make small finger sandwiches out of their favorite lunch meat. Here are some great ideas!

sandwichPeanut Butter: Bacon Spread peanut butter on white bread. Layer chopped cooked bacon and sliced banana on top. Top with bread. Trim the crusts and cut into pieces.
Smoked Turkey Apple: Inside of a split baguette filled with smoked turkey, cheddar cheese and sliced apple. Slice; top with a dollop of apple jelly.
Peas and Carrots Puree: 1/2 cup thawed frozen peas with 1 tablespoon each olive oil and water. Cut whole-grain toast into squares; spread with the peas and top with shaved carrot.

Also make sure you have plenty of Drinks after those amazing finger sandwiches. Here are some great ways to make flavored water for you best bud!

Canned food cocktails: Mix a tbsp. of your dog’s favorite canned food with 16 oz. of water. Whisk it until the chunks are gone!
Peanut butter addicts unite: Did you know that peanut butter powder is a thing? Simply take a 1/2 tsp. of peanut butter powder and whisk it into your dog’s water. Just make sure you watch how often you do this – peanut butter, especially dehydrated peanut butter, can be really calorie intense.

dog_summerYou may just want to sit and read, or listen to the sounds of nature when you’re on a picnic, but Fido wants nothing more than to chase nature! make sure your pet has plenty of toys to keep him or her busy. Whether it’s an interactive toy or their favorite squeaky, having something to play with in your basket will help you to relax as well as your four legged friend!
