Pet Adoption Stories for Valentine's Day

February conjures up feelings of red hearts, snuggling and kisses! At American Grooming Academy we are thinking about kisses, the big sloppy kind you get from your true valentine: Your Pet! This month we are celebrating those who “Found the Love”. In the month of December, American Grooming Academy, along with Wag Again K-9 Rescue, teamed up to bring pets “Home for the Holidays”. During this event, many of Wag Again’s pets found their forever homes! American Grooming Academy will be highlighting two adopters who “Found the Love”! Here are some sweet Pet Adoption Stories for every pet lover!

Kellybeth Abeyla came to American Grooming Academy to drop off her other three dogs for grooming one Saturday morning in December. She sent her dogs in to be dropped off with her daughter, while Kellybeth stayed in the car. Between her and the front door of American Grooming Academy Wag Again K-9 Rescue sets up their round pens. Kellybeth and her family had just moved to the area and she had a need to give another homeless pet a wonderful life, but today was not the day she intended. Looking up she saw a small black dog sitting quietly in the rear of a round pen. She loved the way that dog looked and wondered to herself if this may be something for her. When the children came back to the car they all decided to get out and take a look at a small terrier named Max. They asked Wag Again volunteers to hold Max and when Kellybeth did, “he melted into butter in my arms”.

That second Kellybeth knew Max was hers. While Kellybeth, with the melted Max comfortably in her arms, filled out adoption paperwork her daughter saw a small chihuahua named Lilly. Par her daughters needs for Miss Lilly, Kellybeth decided they would foster Miss Lilly. Within 24 hours Kellybeth and her family decided that Miss Lilly was, “a cube of sugar”, and again adoption papers were completed for their newest family member.

“Max wants to be carried all the time, so he is always carried around. All of the dogs are best friends. Max and Lilly plugged up a hole in our hearts!”

Unlike Kellybeth and her family, Gabriel Verhage wasn’t looking for a new family member. He was helping other humans! One Wednesday in December Gabriel was taking food and clothing to the Sun City thrift store and food pantry, when he realized there was a farmers market going on. Being retired with some time to spare he decided to see what was for sale! Wag Again K-9 rescue was on hand with some of their amazing pets. Gabriel stopped to take a look and noticed a small terrier mix making , “the weirdest sound I had ever heard from a dog”. The intrigued Gabriel inquired to why the dog was making the “sound” and was told that the particular dog, Simon, was deaf. After studying Simon and his temperament, Gabriel asked to hold the mute puppy. “Simon was so friendly after holding him for a few minutes that I knew he needed a special home, and I knew I had the perfect home for him!” Gabriel brought Simon home after speaking to Deborah Holland, founder of Wag Again K-9 Rescue, and was pleased that the little deaf dog immediately started playing with the family’s other dogs.

“After having him for a day I knew he was going to stay forever! Being deaf sometimes Simon disappears in the house and I have to go looking for him. I always find him cuddled up in the sheets of our bed. He has found his forever home!”

These pet adoption stories warmed our hearts and hopefully yours too! If finding the love is something you want in your family for the Valentines Holiday, adopt!
