Valentine's Day Tips & Tricks!

February is a month dedicated to sharing the love! Most of us have a huge love for animals and showing them the “love” is important! This salon blog will show you ways to “Show The Love” to your furry friend!

Good & Bad Ways of Rewarding

Rewarding is one of the easiest ways to show your pet the love, but doing it right helps not only your pet understand your wants but makes you feel good too. Rewarding is a great way to teach new tricks and behavior you like. Good rewarding for example is giving when your pet does something beneficial to you and your life together. Sitting before going thru a door is a great example of a behavior that can save your pets life. When your pet sits reward with their favorite thing. It could be a treat, a ball or a favorite toy. An example of bad rewarding happens when most parents think their pet is doing something “cute”. For example when your pet jumps up on you or your family and you “reward” them with petting, hugging or kissing, you are rewarding the jumping up behavior. Remember rewarding should be just that! A reward for a job well done!

Helping Your Dog Love Others!

When a new friend, family member or partner comes in to your life it can be stressful on your furry partner. Your time is taken away, generally your attention as well. This sometimes causes unwanted behavior in your forever friend. When bringing a new person into your pets space, remember it may not always go as planned. Many techniques can be used to help easy a transition to a new person in your pets space. A new toy may accompany your human friend or you may simply crate your pet until the emotion of a person coming into their space wears off. Remember, this is your pets home as much as it is yours so be cautious and courteous to your furry friend!

Multiple dogs “Sharing the Love”

Having a lot of dogs whether you’re at home, a dog park, a playgroup or at the groomers can be a fun filled way to get out lots of energy, help dogs have a pack mentality and give you many special moments and laughs. All dogs are capable of being in a pack. Knowing how to keep your family members safe takes time and practice. Many pets should be socialized young. This helps with fear, aggression and confidence. Many pets benefit from the interaction with other dogs, making them healthy and happier. A dog park is a great place to run and play outdoors, and a play group is a great way to have supervised play groups. Many US shelters employ play group to better equip their dogs in finding homes. Having multiple dogs in a home is equally fun, although can sometimes cause problems such as guarding, behaviors and jealously. To help combat any of these issues talk to a trainer and let the playgroup begin!
